What is an Electrified Lockset?

Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure

There are two basic types of electrified locks from a safety standpoint: Fail Safe and Fail Secure.

  • Fail safe locks can be opened for exiting when power is not on
    • Ex. Magnetic Locks or Electrified Panic Hardware
  • Fail secure locks cannot be opened for exiting when power is off.
    • Ex. Electrified Mortise Locks or Electrified Cylinder Locks / Deadbolts
